How to Book a Hospital Appointment in China

For many international patients, China has become an increasingly important destination for healthcare, specialist consultations, physical examinations, and follow-up medical services. Major cities such as Shanghai and Hangzhou are home to well-established hospitals, university-affiliated medical centers, and specialized departments that serve both local and international patients.

However, accessing healthcare in China can still feel complicated for overseas patients. Hospital registration systems may be in Chinese. Appointment availability can change quickly. Patients may not know which department to choose, what documents to prepare, how payment works, or whether their insurance may be accepted.

That is why MedigoChina was created.

MedigoChina is an independent medical coordination and patient assistance platform designed to help international patients access hospital-related services in China more clearly, confidently, and efficiently. We are not a hospital, clinic, doctor, or medical provider. Instead, we focus on the practical coordination steps around the medical journey, including appointment booking support, health checkup booking, hospital visit guidance, insurance pre-check assistance, and medical document support.

Our goal is simple: to make the process of seeking medical care in China easier to understand before the patient starts the journey.

Who We Are

MedigoChina was built for international patients who need reliable, transparent, and practical support when arranging medical appointments in China.

We focus primarily on Shanghai and Hangzhou, two major cities with strong healthcare resources, international communities, and access to well-known public and private medical institutions. Instead of trying to cover every city and every hospital, we focus on building a more selective service model based on hospital quality, patient needs, appointment feasibility, and practical coordination experience.

Our team understands that international patients often need more than just a hospital name. They need clear communication, realistic timelines, transparent service fees, and someone who can help them understand the non-medical steps involved in the process.

This is where MedigoChina fits in.

We help patients prepare, submit, and organize the necessary information for appointment coordination. We also assist with basic administrative communication, hospital navigation support, payment process guidance, insurance pre-check support, and document collection support when needed.

Why China?

China has a large and rapidly developing healthcare system. According to official national statistics, China had more than one million medical and health institutions by the end of 2023, including tens of thousands of hospitals. Major cities such as Shanghai and Hangzhou are especially important because they concentrate high-level hospitals, specialist departments, university-affiliated medical centers, and international patient service resources.

Shanghai has also been actively developing international medical services. Public information from Shanghai’s official English portal shows that the city has promoted international medical service programs and lists hospitals with international medical service capabilities, including well-known institutions such as Huashan Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital, Ruijin Hospital, Renji Hospital, and Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital.

For overseas patients, this creates both opportunity and complexity.

The opportunity is that China may offer access to strong hospital systems, experienced specialists, efficient health checkup services, and advanced medical facilities in major cities.

The complexity is that patients still need to navigate appointment systems, department selection, language barriers, documents, payments, hospital rules, and insurance-related questions.

MedigoChina exists to reduce that complexity.

What Services Does MedigoChina Provide?

MedigoChina currently focuses on three main service areas: Core Services, Patient Support Services, and Insurance Support.

1. Core Services

Our Core Services are designed for patients who need help arranging hospital-related appointments in China.

These may include:

  • General Appointment Coordination
  • Specialist Appointment Coordination
  • Health Checkup Booking

For example, if an international patient needs to book a general outpatient appointment, a specialist consultation, or a health checkup in Shanghai or Hangzhou, MedigoChina can help collect the necessary information, check practical appointment options, and assist with the coordination process.

Our role is not to diagnose the patient or recommend a treatment plan. We do not provide medical opinions. Instead, we help patients communicate their request clearly and complete the administrative steps required for appointment coordination.

2. Patient Support Services

A hospital visit in China can involve multiple steps, including registration, check-in, payment, department navigation, examination queues, prescription pickup, and follow-up instructions.

For international patients, these steps can be stressful if they are unfamiliar with the hospital environment or do not speak Chinese.

MedigoChina’s Patient Support Services are designed to provide non-medical, bilingual assistance during the hospital visit. This may include:

  • Meeting the patient at the agreed location and time
  • Helping with hospital registration and check-in
  • Guiding the patient to the correct department or examination area
  • Assisting with basic administrative communication
  • Helping the patient understand where to pay, where to wait, and where to collect documents or medication
  • Supporting the patient through the general hospital process

Important note: Patient Support Services do not include medical interpretation, diagnosis explanation, treatment recommendations, or medical advice. If a patient needs professional medical interpretation, we may help them explore whether hospital-arranged interpreter services or approved translation support options are available.

3. Insurance Support

Insurance can be one of the most confusing parts of receiving medical services abroad.

Different hospitals may have different payment rules. Some hospitals may support direct billing with selected insurers, while others may require the patient to pay first and claim reimbursement later. Coverage decisions are ultimately controlled by the insurer and the hospital, not by MedigoChina.

Our Insurance Support services are designed to help patients understand the administrative side of this process.

These may include:

  • Insurance Pre-Check Support
  • Basic verification of whether a preferred hospital may support certain insurance arrangements
  • Claim Preparation Support
  • Organization of claim-related documents
  • Guidance on reimbursement document requirements
  • Medical document collection and delivery support where available

MedigoChina does not guarantee insurance approval, reimbursement, direct billing, or claim success. Our role is to help patients prepare and organize the process more clearly.

What Makes MedigoChina Different?

Many medical service platforms use vague pricing, bundled service models, or unclear consultation promises. MedigoChina is built differently.

Transparent and Modular Pricing

We believe international patients should understand what they are paying for before starting the process.

MedigoChina uses a modular service model. Patients can choose only the services they actually need, such as appointment coordination, health checkup booking, patient support, insurance pre-check, or document assistance.

Hospital medical fees are not included in MedigoChina’s service fees. Consultation fees, examinations, treatments, medications, and other hospital-related charges are paid directly by the patient to the hospital or medical institution.

This separation helps patients better understand the difference between hospital costs and coordination service fees.

Clear Service Boundaries

MedigoChina is not a medical provider. We do not diagnose conditions, recommend treatments, explain clinical decisions, or replace communication with licensed medical professionals.

This boundary protects both the patient and the service process. Our job is to support access, coordination, navigation, and document organization — not to interfere with medical judgment.

Focus on Shanghai and Hangzhou

Instead of offering broad but shallow coverage across all of China, MedigoChina focuses on Shanghai and Hangzhou first.

This allows us to prioritize hospitals and service environments that are more suitable for international patients, including major public hospitals, tertiary hospitals, international medical departments, health checkup centers, and institutions with stronger administrative experience serving overseas visitors.

Bilingual Administrative Support

Language is one of the biggest barriers for international patients in China.

MedigoChina provides bilingual support for practical, non-medical communication, including appointment details, hospital navigation, registration steps, payment process guidance, and document-related coordination.

We aim to make the journey easier to follow, especially for patients who may be visiting China for the first time.

Trust Through Clarity

Trust is not built by making unrealistic promises. It is built through clarity.

MedigoChina aims to provide:

  • Clear service descriptions
  • Transparent pricing
  • Defined refund rules
  • Practical appointment expectations
  • Clear separation between coordination fees and hospital fees
  • Honest disclaimers about what we can and cannot do
  • Respect for patient privacy and medical confidentiality

We believe this is especially important in healthcare-related services, where patients need accurate expectations before making decisions.

Why International Patients May Need Medical Coordination in China

Booking a hospital appointment in China may sound simple, but the real process can be more complicated.

Patients may need to answer questions such as:

  • Which department should I choose?
  • Can this hospital receive international patients?
  • Is the doctor available on my preferred date?
  • What documents should I prepare?
  • Do I need a passport for registration?
  • Can I use international insurance?
  • Will I need to pay first and claim reimbursement later?
  • Can someone help me navigate the hospital on the appointment day?
  • How can I collect medical records, invoices, test reports, or discharge summaries afterward?

MedigoChina helps organize these practical steps so patients can approach the process with more confidence.

Our Service Philosophy

MedigoChina was created around one principle:

Healthcare access should be easier to understand.

International patients should not feel lost before they even enter the hospital. They should know what service they are paying for, what hospital fees are separate, what documents they need, what support is available, and what limitations apply.

We do not promise guaranteed appointments with every doctor. We do not promise medical outcomes. We do not provide diagnosis or treatment advice.

What we do promise is a more organized, transparent, and patient-friendly coordination process.

Who Can Use MedigoChina?

MedigoChina may be suitable for:

  • International travelers visiting China
  • Foreign residents living in China
  • Overseas Chinese families helping relatives arrange care
  • Patients seeking specialist consultations in Shanghai or Hangzhou
  • Patients who need health checkup booking support
  • Patients who need help understanding hospital appointment steps
  • Patients who need insurance pre-check or reimbursement document support
  • Patients who need assistance collecting medical records or hospital documents

Whether the request is simple or complex, MedigoChina helps patients start with a clearer process.
